Choosing a Curriculum

Even though we would like to choose one curriculum that will “last” for all of our children, it does not always work out that way.  As a home school mom of four, my husband and I began our home education program in 1991. Through the years we have learned that there is no perfect home education program, one size fits all. Sometimes one curriculum worked beautifully for the first child, and then it just did not work out for the next. We have all been there.  There are the tried and true curriculums, as well as the new latest and greatest.  I can help you determine what would be a good fit for your student, their learning style and your family.

Parents want to know if curriculum choices are meeting “standards.” Maybe you have asked yourself this question. “If I had to put my child back into a school setting, would they be ready for a classroom in their grade level?”  In all probability, the answer is, “Yes!”  Usually, the home school student meets or exceeds their grade level. If you have any doubts, having your child evaluated or tested, will answer those questions.

Fortunately, today there are many more educational options available for students who are home educated, particullarly in middle and high school. The many options to choose from are a traditional school at home, co-op classes, special classes offered in your community, online classes, dual enrollment, credit by examination (ie. CLEP exams), vocational schools and apprenticeships that are available to students today as they prepare for what they want to be when they “grow up.” I can help identify and direct you to these resources
