Put down that homework and do the dishes. Household chores may be out of favor, but they have many benefits.
As a parent, does your family pick up on your silent signals? I have several that mine have observed over the years. One is the clothing I wear when I clean. You know the ones that can withstand a bleach stain and just about everything else. When they saw me dressed in that "special" outfit, they wanted to run for cover. That was not my goal. I would say, "Let's all work together, many hands make light work." My children, now adults, to their credit, are very good at household chores and recognizing the needs of others. They have learned how to keep their things in order, clean up the kitchen and bathroom, their cars as well as mow the lawn. One of our sons was complimented at a restaurant where he worked that he really did know how to sweep a floor. It was not always fun, but the work got done. If only I had learned the following lessons earlier, chores may have been a little easier on us all and fun as well. Happy Spring cleaning!
